Ever since I was a wee lad, the way of the samurai always captivated me.  There is nothing more badass then seeing a Japanese warrior posed with sword drawn before a strike.  I have only seen a few movies that honor one of Japan’s amazing histories.  This is one of them.

A middle aged low level samurai Hanshirô Tsugumo (Ebizô Ichikawa) enters the House of Li requesting to perform ritual suicide within their court.  Before granting his request, Lord Kageyu (Kôji Yakusho) offers a warning through a horrific story of last samurai to make such request.  Hanshirô counters with his own personal story.  House of Li dramatically learns of Hanshirô true motive for coming.

Please don’t go into this movie thinking its going to be slash fest.  This will only lead to disappointment.  The story poetically unfolds revealing a past of dark undertones leading to a unpredictable ending. This is a cruel story of wealth having all the power.
